Cats and Bruises Review

Cats and Bruises Review

Cats and Bruises is a 1965 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a filler cartoon.

This Sylvester and Speedy short contains very little original material, being pretty much a filler that consists of recycled sequences and animation from previous short films starring this duo. The problem here is that even those scenes that they used were individually not great, and especially not in this context.

The plank scene was uninteresting and the racing car sequence also ended up being rather mediocre. I continue to find the pairing of these characters not particularly interesting. The only good scene here came at the beginning during a Mexican celebration that the mice attend and Sylvester is there with mouse ears trying to blend in. That moment was ridiculous, but it worked because of it.

Cats and Bruises has a funny beginning, but everything else that came after it was rather boring. It’s a filler cartoon that mostly recycles scenes from previous shorts.

My Rating – 3
