Blush Review

Blush is a 2021 animated short film written and directed by Joe Mateo. It is a solid, but far from original flick.

A stranded horticulturist-astronaut meets an ethereal visitor on a desolate dwarf planet. My issue with this movie is that we’ve seen similar environmental tales many times before, so this one is hardly original in anything that it does. The characters are cute and lovely and the movie is sweet, but it needed more authenticity in its plot overall.

Blush is beautifully designed. Yes, it’s a bit too cutesy in character designs, but the visuals are incredible, especially of the planet and the space. The imagery of this tiny planet and the plants was just instantly memorable and the score is also lovely. I just wish the movie had more meat plotwise.

Blush is this very lovely to look at, sweet movie that needed a better and more original storyline.
