Aqua Duck Review

Aqua Duck Review

Aqua Duck is a 1963 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty fun cartoon.

Lost in a desert, Daffy Duck finds a gold nugget and is unwilling to part with it even though he is in desperate need of water. Then, a mouse arrives with a glass of water taunting him to trade him the gold nugget for it. The ending here is golden, pun intended. Daffy trades the nugget for water, but then rain comes pouring down ironically so. The duck is happy regardless.

It was a great way to end the cartoon that was never quite as memorable before that moment, but the scenes with the mouse were all quite entertaining. The nugget and the glass being in the middle of the desert was hilariously illogical in the typically surreal Looney Tunes fashion. That atmosphere was also enriched with stupendous visuals, a great score and an intriguingly painted desert. Daffy is so funny here and I just wish that he got one of his classic partners with him.

Aqua Duck isn’t hilarious throughout, but it does feature a very funny ending. The animation, score and atmosphere are the highlights in this desert-set cartoon.

My Rating – 4.2
