Alice and the Three Bears Review

Alice and the Three Bears Review

Alice and the Three Bears is a 1924 animated short film from the Alice Comedies series. It’s a weak short.

The Three Bears are busy cooking and the baby goes to find some frogs to provide for the recipe, so he runs off and pursues a frog at the local pond. In the meantime Alice and her cat stumble upon the Three Bears’ house and sneak inside. This was a solid take on the famous titular fairy tale that was odd at times and particularly strange in the character designs. The animals all had very unusual shapes and their sizes did not correspond well to the real life animals.

Still though, this is one of the more entertaining Alice Comedies due to excellent gags employed, especially in that very fun third act. The fights between the cat and the bears were amusing throughout, but it was the final sequence that saw the cat use his nine lives to help Alice that was particularly inventive, unique and very interesting.

Alice and the Three Bears has its issues throughout, but solid gags and a particularly inventive ending were its highlights.

My Rating – 3.9
