A Waggily Tale Review

A Waggily Tale Review

A Waggily Tale is a 1958 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty weak cartoon.

A boy named Junior, who treats his dog, Elvis, cruelly, is scolded by his mother and sent to his room to have a nap. Junior dreams that he is a dog adopted by a loving little girl, who doesn’t know that dogs aren’t supposed to be washed in a washing machine, or bandaged from head-to-toe after being beaten up by a scrappier, smaller dog, or toothbrushed with shaving cream. Junior awakes from his dream in shock. Now sensitive to his own dog’s feelings, Junior vows to be nicer to him.

This is one of those shorts that are uninspired and unoriginal in plot. The only great thing about it is the message about respecting your pets, hugely important for younger children to teach. The movie’s ending is quite sweet. However, the rest of the movie is standard, repetitive fare with particularly mediocre animation.

A Waggily Tale is important in its message, but is overly familiar in plot and not well animated at all.

My Rating – 3.4
