Whoa, Be-Gone Review

Whoa, Be-Gone Review

Whoa, Be-Gone is a 1958 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a pretty good cartoon.

This Road Runner cartoon isn’t particularly authentic in most of its segments but is still quite entertaining and good fun as is usual for this series. The first half definitely is inferior to the second one, though. The typical bombing and detonation plans were never all that original here, though their execution was overall quite strong.

The second half was much better with some terrific set pieces. The final plan was highly unique for the series and for the poor coyote. I was actually surprised how interesting this plan involving watering the seeds into a tornado was. Still, it backfired of course, and it led to that very funny ending where he is inside a tornado and then onto a mine field.

Whoa, Be-Gone has an inferior first half, but that final section is terrific, authentic and so well executed.

My Rating – 4
