A Squeak in the Deep Review

A Squeak in the Deep Review

A Squeak in the Deep is a 1966 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very frustrating short.

Daffy Duck enters a boat racing contest and is frustrated constantly by Speedy Gonzales. First off, what worked here. Very little, but it’s of some note at least. Daffy and Speedy both sing here, and the results are funny and very endearing. The setting was also cool and somewhat well realized.

But that’s pretty much it. The rest of the cartoon consists of mostly subpar gags and a tiresome plot. There is even a boat racing contest here that doesn’t get resolved whatsoever, which was the case of very lazy writing right there. The animation is also mediocre and so is the score. The two characters got some very amusing lines of dialogue, but they needed a much better script.

A Squeak in the Deep has some solid moments for sure, but for the most part it was another uninspired Daffy/Speedy outing.

My Rating – 3.1
