A Sheep in the Deep Review

A Sheep in the Deep Review

A Sheep in the Deep is a 1962 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a terrific cartoon.

This is a Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog cartoon and it is definitely one of their best. It contains everything that I love about their series – offbeat weirdness and excellent humor. The action itself is only solid with no particularly outstanding plans and machinations employed, but it is the humor that happens in-between the action that is the highlight here.

We have always known that these two have a job to do and they do it exceptionally well, but it is in this short where that idea is employed to the fullest degree by making the two even take breaks between all the mayhem. The result is a hilarious scene after scene where the two have a tea or a cigarette and then they continue fighting as if nothing had happened. Those scene transitions were so well edited and they were immensely funny while the animation is excellent as always.

A Sheep in the Deep is one of the best Ralph Wolf and Sham Sheepdog shorts thanks to its sheer ingenuity in gags and world building employed.

My Rating – 4.3
