Fish and Slips Review

Fish and Slips Review

Fish and Slips is a 1962 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty good short.

Sylvester is once again bothered by his son to prove himself as a successful fisherman. To do that, he takes them to an aquarium where he makes many failed attempt to catch a fish. Some of these attempts constitute rather frustrating, unfunny scenarios with the final one about some kind of a dog fish being the worst. It was just not inventive and it was rather weak to end it on that note.

But many other moments really worked with the best ones being the piranha scene and the more elaborate sections underwater. The animation is gorgeous and Sylvester is quite funny here, but the highlight is the beginning where Sylvester Jr. scolds his father for being a bad fisherman. As is always the case with these films, the dialogue is better than the action.

Fish and Slips features a very poor ending, but the rest of the short is excellent and it features once again hilarious banter between Sylvester and his son.

My Rating – 4
