Wet Hare Review

Wet Hare Review

Wet Hare is a 1962 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty solid short.

Bugs finds himself at odds with a ruthless lumberjack who wants to control the water supply by building a series of dams. The lumberjack in question is Blacque Jacque Shellacque, a villain who is actually quite a lot of over-the-top fun. He is so good that he is rather underused in the Looney Tunes shorts. Here, he even stole the show from Bugs himself as some of his lines and gags are quite funny.

Bugs is as always manipulative and extremely clever. The animation is pretty good and the river setting is wonderfully used for some solid action sequences. The highlights include the first dam destruction and the finale where the roles are reversed in a hilarious fashion. But some of the gags in the second half did not work as well with the shark one being rather pedestrian. Even more could have been used with this excellent premise and the execution is somewhat repetitious.

Wet Hare is somewhat repetitious and uneven, but the gags that work are great and Blacque is a lot of fun in the villainous role.

My Rating – 3.8
