Zoom and Bored Review

Zoom and Bored Review

Zoom and Bored is a 1957 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very strong entry.

This is one of the better Road Runner shorts in this period in their history as most of the gags worked stupendously here. Now, a couple of the segments, especially in the first half are very much the case of been there, done that, but most of the others are great and the animation is terrific.

The vibrating sequence was very funny, especially how it ended with the tearing of the book. The beginning with the Latin names was per usual hilarious and that entire final stretch with the harpoon gun was gloriously executed. The music is classical in the best way possible. The highlight for me in this particular short has to be the very end. The bird actually feels sorry for the coyote and spares him of further humiliation and trouble, walking away and saying the most touching line probably in this whole series.

Zoom and Bored features an unforgettable ending that was lovely and moving while the whole short is so well scored and animated too.
