Zip Zip Hooray! Review

Zip Zip Hooray! is a 1965 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very odd cartoon.

In this very strange short, two boys watch a cartoon where the Coyote chases the Road Runner. I am all for this meta storytelling, but when it’s done right, which this movie simply wasn’t. The premise is undoubtedly highly unique, which was refreshing and admirable, but the humor was nowhere to be found.

The food-centric ending was not very good and it felt dysfunctional while the boy that was watching television did not make any truly funny commentary. The editing was interesting as was the structure of the short, but the execution was quite poor. The animation was good and I did quite like that flying section in the first half, but most of the other gags were barely passable.

Zip Zip Hooray! has an original structure and premise, but the messy execution ruined any chance that this meta short could have had to be great.

My Rating – 3.1
