Yankee Doodle Bugs is a 1954 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very amusing short.
Bugs explains American history to his nephew Clyde for his history class. The instant I saw the structure of this movie, I feared that I was heading for the worst – the dreaded rehashed cartoon entry. But that thankfully did not happen. Yes, some of the historical segments here are quite forgettable and not funny at all, but some are very entertaining.
The flag one with the stars creation was hilarious. The tea party was also very well done. This short is very well animated and charming in its historical scenes, but also pleasantly silly and goofy throughout. It introduces Clyde for the first time and I found him quite cute and his relationship with his uncle was great, resulting in that very cute ending.
Yankee Doodle Bugs has its lesser scenes, but the overall premise really worked and the humor is great.
