Will & Grace Season 10 Review

The tenth season of Will & Grace is another very solid addition to this show that continues to prove that it deserves to continue going on as long as it’s this fun.

Okay, okay, so he’s a chubby chaser, that’s good

The West Side Curmudgeon is important for introducing Noah to a season that would have him in almost every single episode. As a love interest for Grace, he’s pretty well developed, better than most of her previous boyfriends, and both of them being so negative was a nice fit. David Schwimmer is very good in the role, but ultimately they did not do enough with their relationship. This episode’s comedic highlight, though, is Jack using a bad face cream in a terrific display of the show’s knack for good slapstick.

Where in the World is Karen Walker? is a forgettable episode that sees Karen divorcing Stan, and that led to a great season of rediscovery for her. Tex and the City is at its best in the Karen subplot where she runs against Beverly Leslie. It’s a shame that this is his only appearance in this season, but he was per usual hilarious with many hysterical one-liners.

Who’s Sorry Now? is too silly in the psychic subplot, but it’s unexpectedly deep in Grace realizing how dark Will’s grappling with sexuality once was. Grace’s Secret provides another odd gut punch by revealing Grace’s dark past where she was once raped. That was too dark, but it did lead to a great scene with her father who’s so well utilized in this season.

Kid ‘N Play is cliched in the revelation of Noah’s having a kid while So Long, Division is at its best in that argument of Jack’s about which sexual minority has had it worst in life. Anchor Away introduces celebrity news anchor McCoy Whitman played by Matt Bomer. I honestly do not care for this character who is overly vain and emotionally pathetic. His relationship with Will has its moments, but for the most part I think that Will deserves somebody more interesting.

Family, Trip is fun in its lesbian subplot, Dead Man Texting is a solid situational comedy and The Scales of Justice is hilarious in the subplot of Jack and Grace trying to lose weight. Surprisingly, this season is full of slapstick, and a good one at that. The Pursuit of Happiness is so funny when Malcolm and Karen communicate. I have always found him perfect for her, and I wish she saw that too. The subplot with Will having a crush on another professor is also great, if for no other reason than the scene where Jack entirely destroys him in one hilarious exchange.

The Real McCoy is mostly memorable for Val who is so crazy and fun here. Supreme Courtship is so funny in the scenes where Jack makes a mess of things with Will and Estefan, but I still continue to find Estefan such a boring, overly goofy love interest even for Jack. The love interests on this show are mediocre.

Bad Blood is dramatically superb. Grace’s father not wanting Will’s blood due to homophobia was undoubtedly well explored and some scenes are so moving here. It signifies the importance of the fight for rights so well. Conscious Coupling is a fun situational comedy that also sees Jack grow considerably as a person. The Things We Do for Love and Jack’s Big Gay Wedding are both very messy, but the wedding itself was fun, I loved that drag queen comic relief and Grace’s conclusion is intriguing. As for Karen and Nikki’s relationship, I found it ultimately well done. Karen is a straight woman and thankfully they didn’t make her bi or a lesbian, and that was so well established.

Overall, this season is pretty solid. It has its problematic episodes and mostly some uninteresting character decisions or downright boring characters, but most are great, especially the main foursome. The season is at its best in elaborate slapstick or situational comedy scenes, and less interesting in the dramatic stuff for the most part.

Worst Episodes: So Long, Division and The Things We Do for Love.

Best Episodes: The Pursuit of Happiness and The Real McCoy.

My Rating – 3.7

  1. Great job. Now you just have Season 11 left to review and then you rank them all. By the way, this season is where the viewers in the ratings have either decreased or increase. It’s in other words, it’s the lowest rated season of the show. And Karen was absent twice in Season 11.

  2. Great job with Season 10. So you just have one more season left to review and then you’ll rank them all. Now, let me say that in my opinion, Season 11 is the great final season but inferior to its previous 2 seasons. It’s known for the facts that Debra Messing and Megan Mullally were feuding, Megan Mullally was absent twice in the season and this is the lowest rated season.

By the way, I’m a huge Will & Grace fan that it’s my favorite tv show and sitcom of all-time.
