Tweet and Lovely Review

Tweet and Lovely Review

Tweet and Lovely is a 1959 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is such a funny cartoon.

This is the closest that the Sylvester and Tweety short has ever gotten to a Wile E. and Road Runner cartoon. I actually liked that as this formula fits for these two characters too, but it did lead to uneven results with the final sequence being particularly disappointing, making the movie not end on a great note.

But most of the rest of the short was stellar. The invisibility scene was hilarious and superbly executed throughout. The grabber plan was also quite funny. Hector is fine here, but the two main stars are both outstanding. Sylvester has rarely been as calculating as he was here. Simply seeing him as this scientist of sort making contraptions constituted instantly funny imagery. But Tweety is the finest source of humor here. His opening shower recitation was absolutely hilarious and so was his reaction at being taken by the invisible cat. His lines are priceless.

Tweet and Lovely has a weaker ending, but this is still a stellar cartoon featuring Tweety and Sylvester at the height of their powers.

My Rating – 4.2
