Tugboat Granny Review

Tugboat Granny Review

Tugboat Granny is a 1956 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is such a fun short.

In this short, Sylvester attempts to get on the tugboat to catch and eat Tweety, but he fails miserably every single time. It is interesting that at this point they were clearly shifting gears in Sylvester/Tweety cartoons into the full Road Runner formula for better and for worse. It feels familiar in that respect, but the many schemes from the cat are great here.

The tugboat was gloriously utilized into the humorous situations and action scenes, in particular the scenes where tried to jump onto the boat were so funny. The opening scene with the crab set up the whole short really well while the animation is wonderful, especially of the background city and bridge. Some of the gags were inferior, but most were so much fun. The highlight was Tweety making fun of the poor cat in per usual dry and witty fashion.

Tugboat Granny is very funny with Tweety being hilarious and the setting being very well used for action.

My Rating – 3.9
