Tortilla Flaps Review

Tortilla Flaps is a 1958 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a fun cartoon.

While Speedy is playing ping-pong by himself, a hungry hawk named Señor Vulturo swoops down and tries to eat the mice. This movie is as usual at its best when focusing on Speedy and his hilarious one-liners, such as “arriba” and “andale”. His voice is iconic and whenever he is on screen, he makes me laugh. Here, he definitely took more of a Road Runner role in a way, but he was still so much fun.

The movie itself isn’t all that great as it is too reliant on that vulture. He is a fine villain for sure with a great voice and personality, but eventually the gags became somewhat repetitive. The ending was particularly problematic as it wasn’t nearly as spectacular as the endings of the best entries in this series. But the animation is great and some of the initial action is pretty strong.

Tortilla Flaps certainly needed more memorable gags, but the animation is excellent and Speedy is as usual superb.

My Rating – 4
