Hare-Less Wolf Review

Hare-Less Wolf Review

Hare-Less Wolf is a 1958 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a weaker cartoon.

An absent-minded wolf sets out to catch Bugs for dinner but keeps forgetting what he was heading out to shoot in the first place. This is one of those typical shorts where the protagonist is so dumb that Bugs easily makes a fool out of him. This was no challenge for the rabbit, so the entire cartoon felt obvious and not all that exciting.

I did like that wolf despite being too dumb and forgetful. The first scene was particularly strong as the husband-wife dynamic was entertaining in its toxicity. I also really liked the first meet-up between the two as it was fun and well executed. However, everything after that came off as overly standard and predictable with the finale itself not being as funny as they thought it would be.

Hare-Less Wolf is solid in characterization and in the first half, but the second half was tiresome and the movie’s premise was very typical.

My Rating – 3.5
