Tom Tom Tomcat ReviewTom Tom Tomcat Review

Tom Tom Tomcat is a 1953 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very strong short.

In this film, Sylvester is a Native American and he attempts to catch Tweety along with his entire tribe. As soon as I’ve heard the classic Confederate song Oh! Susanna, I knew that I was in for a treat. That opening was so wonderful and charming. But the rest of the cartoon ain’t shabby either.

Granny is good here and Tweety is fantastic. However, Sylvester ain’t that memorable himself as he gets too little screen time. The choice to include the entire Indian tribe wasn’t particularly clever. The animation and score are great, but I also liked the action. It was very good throughout with the scalping moment being hilarious, and the ending is so funny.

Tom Tom Tomcat is a memorable South-styled film with a particularly funny Tweety and a great opening.

My Rating – 4.1
