The Wayward Canary ReviewThe Wayward Canary Review

The Wayward Canary is a 1932 Mickey Mouse cartoon. It is a typical entry.

The film follows Mickey who buys Minnie a canary, but afterwards it turns out that the canary has babies who harass the mice and break the house. The chase ensues and naturally this is your standard “little creatures wreak havoc” entry in the Mickey Mouse series. Nothing original to be had here whatsoever and the humor is also quite lacking.

But the film is still very sweet in its beginning and some of the chases were well executed and a lot of fun. The animation is excellent and the highlight was seeing a swastika as well as Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford in photos. It’s interesting how the series suddenly employs real life people and symbols and thus it made this short more interesting.

The Wayward Canary is a fun, well animated short with an uninspired script and a lack of big laughs.

My Rating – 3.4
