Mickey Mouse and the Beanstalk Review

Mickey Mouse and the Beanstalk is a Disney comic that was published in 1947 under the Four Color Comics label (#157). It’s a pretty good issue.

Mickey and the Beanstalk is a famous story that was pretty much lifted in its entirety from the package film ‘Fun and Fancy Free’. I have no qualms with this decision as it must have been wonderful for kids who didn’t see this movie to witness it on the page, but it did make for a less engaging time for me experiencing it all over again in the exact same beats. Still, the illustration work is fantastic and the story constitutes a charming, light read that I still had a nice time with it at the end of the day.

As for Pluto Keeps It Quiet, it’s the best Pluto story in the comics up until this point. It’s still slight, but it worked because it emphasized Pluto’s wonderful dog loyalty as he would stop at nothing to protect Mickey’s precious sleep from being interrupted. It’s such a sweet story.

Mickey Mouse and the Beanstalk has two stories – one is a famous story lifted from the movie while the other is a sweet Pluto arc. Both worked very well, leading to a stellar issue.

My Rating – 4
