The Sheepish Wolf ReviewThe Sheepish Wolf Review

The Sheepish Wolf is a 1942 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a terrific flick.

This is another childhood favorite of mine that I vividly remember seeing and loving as a kid. I still love it thankfully as it truly is one of the best Merry Melodies of 1942. It follows a wolf who disguises as a sheep to catch a sheep, but the dog is there to guide the sheep with the chase eventually ensuing. Although the short is uneven as it has a variety of different types of humor and scenes, most still work quite a bit.

The Little Red Riding Hood sequence is absolutely excellent as is the twist finale. The second half is clearly much funnier than the first one. The wolf is excellent, but the dog himself is so endearingly stupid and amusing. I loved the score, but I absolutely adored the animation with the dog’s design being particularly phenomenal.

The Sheepish Wolf definitely is a terrific Merry Melody with strong animation, characterization and humor.

My Rating – 4.1
