The Screwdriver Review

The Screwdriver is a 1941 animated short film from the Woody Woodpecker series. It is a a very good entry in the series.

The cop tries to arrest Woody, but he makes a fool out of him through a lot of shenanigans. In this movie, Woody genuinely resembled Bugs, especially in the numerous disguises that he donned. In that regard, the film felt too much like a Looney Tunes cartoon and not enough of its own thing.

Still, it mostly worked. The cop character was a lot of fun and his voice was very memorable in particular. The ways that Woody humiliated the cop were quite entertaining and his manic energy was undeniably appealing. The animation is quite strong, the sound is great too and the movie’s gags range from serviceable to quite good.

The Screwdriver is a solid Woody Woodpecker short that is amusing in the central dynamic, but rarely original in anything that it does.

My Rating – 3.9
