The Magnetic Telescope ReviewThe Magnetic Telescope Review

The Magnetic Telescope is a 1942 animated short film from Fleischer Studios. It is the sixth entry in the 4 series.

A rogue scientist brings a dangerous comet on course to Earth and it is up to Superman to stop it. I loved this one. Just as I asked for more fantastical elements, we got them here. The comet is beautifully animated and quite realistic in its shape and movement and I just loved the action in the third act.

What sets this movie apart is Superman’s inability to defeat the comet himself so he had to resort to his smarts instead of just strength. I loved that as it felt refreshing and interesting. Lois is also great here and I was amused by the ending quite a bit. The scientist villain is excellent and the animation is as brilliant as usual. I just wished for a longer runtime and less rushed pace.

The Magnetic Telescope is the second best Superman entry so far thanks to a fantastic comet storyline and a refreshing approach to the problem solving.

My Rating – 4.3
