The Boss Baby 2 Movie Review

The Boss Baby 2 is a 2021 animated comedy film directed by Tom McGrath and starring Alec Baldwin. It’s one of the worst DreamWorks animated movies of all time.

The only difference between “try” and “triumph” is just a little “oomph!

The Templeton brothers have become adults and drifted away from each other, but a new boss baby with a cutting-edge approach is about to bring them together again – and inspire a new family business. This movie’s plot is something else. In fact, it just might be the craziest storyline of any recent animated movie from Hollywood. It’s batshit insane.

Apparently, it is set forty years in the future and it concerns a new Boss Baby, but the old one is also there. They all start a new family business, but there is a villain who is after all of the parents. Really, you’re better off not really thinking too much about all of this shenanigans as it is also not only crazy, but ridiculous and plain dumb.

There is also this problem of not really being for most of the audiences as it was made for the fans of the show only. Yes, they have made a Boss Baby show for Netflix between these two movies, and this sequel is apparently based on that series and not the original flick, so there lies the confusion as most of the characters and plot lines were unfamiliar to me who haven’t watched that show. It was a strange choice to limit your audience like that.

The Boss Baby 2 has some good elements as it’s not all bad. Baldwin is still funny, but the character was reduced in his role, which was unfortunate as he was the best part about the previous movie. The film switched its attention to the female characters, which all seemed overly “woke” and feminist to me personally, though the Tabitha character really worked and some of the scenes with her are genuinely moving.

Some songs are also fine and the action is entertaining to a degree, but also overwhelming and the film’s frenetic to the point that it becomes frustrating to follow. The animation is okay, but nothing particularly remarkable, except in a couple of bigger set pieces here and there. But the script here is so bad and chaotic that it ruined any enjoyment that it possibly could have produced.

The Boss Baby 2 is even weaker than the original. In fact, it’s one of the worst that DreamWorks Animation has ever produced. The animation is fine, some scenes are fun and a couple of characters worked, but the old favorites are brushed aside, and the little heart and comedy that the original had was absent here in favor of the overly complicated, chaotic plot that serves as a sequel to the show more than the movie, foolishly limiting its audience in the process.

My Rating – 2.5
