Super-Rabbit ReviewSuper-Rabbit Review

Super-Rabbit is a 1943 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a disappointing short.

This cartoon is clearly a parody of 1941’s ‘Superman’. It succeeds in its first half to parody that narration particularly well, but later on it stumbles a bit unfortunately. The World War II reference at the end really annoyed me and that entire third act was just not good. But the rest of the film is pretty strong with Bugs Bunny being very entertaining and fulfilling the titular role so well.

The animation is particularly strong in recreating that look and feel of the original film so well. The score is also excellent. I liked some of the action scenes and the humor in the first half is particularly successful with that species description of Bugs being a very funny side note. I just wish that the third act was more sophisticated.

Super-Rabbit has a weak ending, but other than that, the animation, score and humor make a good parody of a Fleischer classic.

My Rating – 3.8

  1. Bugs Bunny’s “Super Rabbit” is my favorite Bugs cartoon precisely because of the way it ends. My dad served in The Marine Corps in the pacific at Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Iwo Jima. I was born while he was there. And, I served in The Corps from 65 to 75, with 44months inVietnam
