Sheep Ahoy Review

Sheep Ahoy Review

Sheep Ahoy is a 1954 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is an interesting flick.

This is the second movie starring Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog. It’s an improvement over the previous one. Once again, we get a bunch of segments where he tries to catch the sheep, but fails consistently. My favorite scene has to be the detour sequence with the waterfall. That sequence was perfectly executed and very amusing in its entirety. Others are less memorable, though all are solid in their own right.

The movie is also very well animated and well executed in characters. Ralph is great, but Sam is so much fun as this badass dog who always manages to thwart all of the wolf’s plans. The main point of contention here is the ending. On the one hand, I definitely appreciate it for pulling the rug on the audience and introducing this twist ending where there are more wolves and dogs doing their job in shifts. However, it was still too silly and abrupt in execution.

Sheep Ahoy has a questionable, though memorable ending. The animation is strong and the movie is overall very well done and quite entertaining.

My Rating – 3.9
