Riding the Rails Review

Riding the Rails Review

Riding the Rails is a 1938 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a pretty fun cartoon.

Betty Boop goes to work on the subway. Pudgy the Pup follows her and gets more ride than he bargained for. This is another Pudgy short that was not particularly innovative or fresh in its premise, but the train rails sequence was actually a lot of fun as the action was well executed there.

Betty was quite amusing in a couple of scenes that she got, but the series continued to give her diminishing roles. The animation is splendid, polished and quite artistic with the subway being particularly well realized. Pudgy was in this movie once again an absolute idiot, but there is a lot of fun to be had with his crazy escapades. The ending was conventional and predictable, but charming regardless.

Riding the Rails is a fun Pudgy short that isn’t great, but it’s fun and charming in its own right.

My Rating – 3.6
