Ready, Woolen and Able Review

Ready, Woolen and Able Review

Ready, Woolen and Able is a 1960 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a very good short.

This is a Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog cartoon, and although it’s not among the best in this particular series, it is still a very well crafted, highly entertaining flick. There are scenes here that don’t quite work – for instance, the first couple of gags were utterly forgettable with the dynamite one being uninspired.

But those that work are very strong. In particular, the bed-springs gag was superbly executed across the board as it’s the type of gag that just keeps on giving as Ralph’s misfortunes pile atop one another. The trapeze scene was also a lot of fun. The animation is fine too and the final moment acknowledges once again that this is a job for both of them in an amusing manner.

Ready, Woolen and Able is a pretty strong Ralph Wolf and Sam Sheepdog cartoon that is weaker in its first couple of gags, but excellent in the remainder with the ending and the bed-springs gags being the highlights.

My Rating – 4
