Mouse and Garden Review

Mouse and Garden Review

Mouse and Garden is a 1960 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very strong cartoon.

Sylvester and his friend, Sam Cat are rummaging through trash cans for food, until Sylvester spots a mouse sneaking past them. The two felines engage in a battle over the mouse, ending with them getting stranded on a tiny island. The cats kick each other repeatedly as the mouse rows past them on a jug singing triumphantly. This short doesn’t have amazing humor to be honest as the situations could have been more memorable.

Regardless of that, Mouse and Garden is a very good short that features a highly memorable character in the conniving Sam Cat. The mouse is very funny in that last bit, but the two cats fighting with each other throughout is the most amusing dynamic of the story that is its highlight. Sylvester is great, but Sam Cat actually steals the show from him as his lines of dialogue are so fun.

Mouse and Garden is a deserved Oscar nominee due to its polished animation, terrific ending and an excellent central dynamic between the two cats.

My Rating – 4.1
