Pudgy Takes a Bow-Wow Review

Pudgy Takes a Bow-Wow Review

Pudgy Takes a Bow-Wow is a 1937 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a weaker entry in the series.

Betty Boop’s stage show takes a new turn when Pudgy the pup and his feline enemy get into the act. My main issue with this cartoon as that it functions as two movies awkwardly put together into one. The one with Pudgy is much more enjoyable as he is always adorable, but even that section was tiresome and familiar.

The Betty section is even worse as it’s your standard stage show of the thirties with not a single memorable musical number. The racial stereotypes were of course annoying and the music was forgettable. The movie is well animated, but it failed to capture my attention in terms of characterization and script.

Pudgy Takes a Bow-Wow has its cute moments, but it’s mostly a weak cartoon with two stories that don’t mash well together.

My Rating – 3.2
