Pokémon (Diamond and Pearl: Galactic Battles) Season 12 Review

Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl: Galactic Battles is the 12th season of Pokémon which is pretty much on par with its predecessor when it comes to both its strengths and weaknesses.

Pokémon Season 12 Review

This season contains way too much filler that continues to plague the whole show, but here was even unbearable in some stretches which went for not just one, but two or even three episodes. That was certainly a problem and I continue to find the lack of creativity and ideas from the show’s creators troubling.

They have so many Pokémon at their disposal and they don’t have an idea how to use them for the most part. We are stuck at the same place during this season with Ash continuing to get smaller screen time and Dawn continuing to get much more time which is troublesome as she has never been a great character.

However, Team Rocket once again excelled and they made their episodes stand out for sure. The highlight was seeing the team win for once as James won them a tournament. That was unexpected and a pleasant surprise as the team continues to become more competent throughout these seasons.

But easily the standout part of this season lies in the title itself – Team Galactic. They are fantastic and they compensate for those filler episodes and the lack of new, memorable Pokémon and high adventure stuff with truly terrific stories which are all of their episodes.

They are a competent team of villains and both their character design and characterization is strong. It was a breath of fresh air to witness a more adult, mature and danger-induced, action-oriented, science fiction even take on this show which these characters provide. The cosmic episodes and the connected episodes are certainly the highlights and I wish we got more of them as for a season that is named after them, they were certainly shortchanged in favor of stupid filler.

In the end, I liked this season quite a bit when it comes to Team Rocket and especially Team Galactic, but for every one of their episodes, we get a filler episode and boring adventures so it ends up being solid and flawed per usual.

Worst Episodes: Leading a Stray, Hold the Phione, A Faux Oak Finish, Historical Mystery Tour and Challenging a Towering Figure.

Best Episodes: Gateway to Ruin, Dressed to Jess Success, The Needs of the Three, The Battle Finale of Legend and The Treasure Is All Mine.

My Rating – 3.4
