Much Ado About Nothing ReviewMuch Ado About Nothing Review

Much Ado About Nothing is a 1953 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a fun flick.

It follows one feisty squirrel who will stop at nothing to break one acorn. Yes, needless to say, this character and the entire cartoon reminded me pleasantly of Scrat from ‘Ice Age’. It’s so similar, in fact, that Blue Sky Studios may have stolen the idea from Warner Bros’ Merry Melodies.

What this movie lacks is the inventiveness when it comes to its action scenes. Some are fun, but most are standard and unoriginal. The animation is pretty good, but the movie lacks truly great humor as the ending is particularly weak. But I liked most of it, in particular the main squirrel character who’s so cute.

Much Ado About Nothing is a pretty flawed, but fun squirrel cartoon with a fine premise solidly executed.

My Rating – 3.5
