Mouse-Taken Identity is a 1957 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a solid entry in the series.

This is another short starring Sylvester and his smartass son. Hippety is back and it is up to the father to prove his worth to his son. This cartoon definitely isn’t original as by now we have seen this story many times before. It also lacks truly memorable set pieces, especially in the second half.

However, the first half is fantastic. I loved the opening dialogue as Sylvester Junior is the funniest when talking about the expectations that he imposes on his dad. Sylvester’s frustrations are also wildly amusing. The animation is nice if unremarkable. The movie needed a better second half, but the dialogue is the driving force here and so was the characterization.

Mouse-Taken Identity needed a better second half, but the first half is fantastic and Sylvester Junior is hilarious as usual.
