Morning, Noon and Night Review

Morning, Noon and Night is a 1933 animated short film from the Betty Boop series. It is a very odd short.

To the tune of Rubinoff and his orchestra, Betty Boop and feathered friends try to save a baby bird from the booze-swilling Tom Kats Club. This was one of the weakest Betty Boop shorts released up to this point in the series. There was nothing particularly original and/or interesting here. The animation is terrific and the score is superb as always, but the storytelling is subpar.

The animal-centric storyline was rather tiresome, though it had its solid gags for sure. The sun gags were appealing as always  and the chaos that erupts in the third act was somewhat entertaining. Betty herself is rather underutilized here. Her role was significantly reduced and thus she wasn’t as memorable, though she was as endearing as ever.

Morning, Noon and Night looks and sounds terrific, but the plot and humor were nothing to write home about in this lesser Betty Boop short.

My Rating – 3.4
