Hittin' the Trail for Hallelujah Land ReviewHittin’ the Trail for Hallelujah Land

Hittin’ the Trail for Hallelujah Land is a 1931 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a troublesome entry.

This is the last cartoon featuring Piggy and that is good as he never made it for obvious reasons – he is entirely forgettable and boring. This short is one of the Censored Eleven which is a group of eleven cartoons from Merry Melodies and Looney Tunes which are racially insensitive. And that didn’t bother me as much as the dull and entirely uninspired plot did.

It is well animated and scored and some moments in the middle were pretty good, but most of it was disappointing. The skeleton sequence is too reminiscent to The Skeleton Dance’ and the entire film is way too derivative leading to the most forgettable and to me the worst entry in the series so far, from both Looney Tunes and Merry Melodies.

Hittin’ the Trail for Hallelujah Land is derivative, forgettable and just dull.
