Jasper and the Beanstalk ReviewJasper and the Beanstalk Review

Jasper and the Beanstalk is a 1945 animated short film directed by George Pal. It’s a solid flick.

This famous tale is told here in a not so convincing manner. The video that I found on the Internet is very poor admittedly, so I cannot judge the animation wholly objectively, but it did not look all that great regardless of the video quality. I did like the score and music in it quite a bit with the song near the end being fine.

The characters aren’t great, but the story is overall fine, particularly the ending and the beginning, both I really liked. Again, the score is my favorite element, and the overall somewhat grandiose nature to it as it covers a lot of ground in a very little time. However, the cheapness factor bothered me and that’s why it did not deserve its Oscar nomination.

Jasper and the Beanstalk is solidly directed, well crafted in terms of plot and very well scored, but weakly animated and somewhat cheap overall.

My Rating – 3.5
