Hoppy Go Lucky ReviewHoppy Go Lucky Review

Hoppy Go Lucky is a 1952 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a very weak movie.

It follows a giant, dim-witted cat named Benny, who wants Sylvester, whom he calls George, to help him catch a mouse to hug and pet. Without any shadow of a doubt, it’s clear from the first moment that this flick is a parody of the classic Steinbeck novella ‘Of Mice and Men’. It was very fashionable to parody this work back then, and this is yet another not all that strong such parody.

I did like Sylvester here a lot, and the characterization overall is quite strong. I also liked some scenes, especially the mouse scenes. It has its moments for sure, and it has an energy and charm to it that are undeniable. But it lacks the truly great humor and action that are present in the best of the Looney Tunes.

Hoppy Go Lucky has its moments for sure, but overall it wasn’t nearly as funny as its parody status demanded it to have been.

My Rating – 3.5
