He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Season 2 Review

The second season of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is another strong one as the show is one of the best cartoons of the eighties for sure.

I’ll get you for this, He-Man!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Season 2 Review

It has again 65 episodes and most are very good. I would definitely say that some episodes here are rather childish, even more so than in the first season. Most of the episodes that focused solely on Orko tend to be very immature both in humor and in extensive life lessons for the kids. They are great for children, just not for adults.

But the season still has a lot of phenomenal adventurous episodes and highly engaging, entertaining and well written sagas. I particularly liked the episodes with Skeletor where he was more competent than usual, the character backstories of course are great and naturally the highlight for me was the episode where Earthlings came to Eternia as that was a refreshing change in pace as a very different, ambitious episode.

Teela definitely improved here and I really liked her ongoing relationship with Prince Adam who is also somewhat more interesting this time around, but still rather bland in comparison to the other characters. Evil-Lyn is terrific here and I particularly liked the episodes where she was on the good side. She’s the most interesting villain of them all, though naturally Skeletor is excellent and actually rather funny in some episodes here. His banter with He-Man is continuously hilarious.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Season 2 Review

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is, as I said in the previous season review, gorgeously animated and that goes for this season too. I do find the problem with character moments persistent as they move awkwardly, but other than that, the backgrounds are lovely and the show looks way ahead of its time. I once again adored its score, the action is also very strong here and the same goes for the spirited adventure/SF elements. I just wish the dialogue wasn’t as childish and that some episodes weren’t all that cartoony or basically detours.

All in all, the second season is pretty good as is the first one. I loved watching He-Man as it’s such an entertaining, endearing and very adventurous and well written cartoon with terrific world building and attention to detail. I am going to miss it for sure.

Worst Episodes: Orko’s New Friend, The Littlest Giant and Here There, Skeletors Everywhere.

Best Episodes: Visitors from Earth, To Save the Creatures and The Problem with Power.

My Rating – 3.9
