Half-Fare Hare Review

Half-Fare Hare is a 1956 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a dated, overly timely short.

Bugs Bunny boards the Chattanooga Choo Choo and finds two hoboes who look and act like Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton, from The Honeymooners TV show, who want to eat Bugs after being hungry for days. The problem with this cartoon is that this is another one of these films that focus on parodying a popular show from its time period, and thus it feels overly dated as if you haven’t seen the show such as myself, then you will be lost.

Bugs Bunny is funny here per usual and the train setting provided some very amusing and memorable imagery. The score and the animation worked and the energy is there, but the male characters are forgettable and again overly referential to this show. It’s very limited in appeal, which ironically cost it its appeal for modern audiences.

Half-Fare Hare is well scored and animated, but it is overly referential, and thus quite dated for today’s audiences.

My Rating – 3.5
