Grand Uproar Review

Grand Uproar is a 1930 animated short film from the Talkartoons series.

Bimbo sings and the comedy construction is adequate to the situation. This is one of those theater shorts that are set on the stage and that are very much a product of their time, lacking plot or characterization necessary to elevate it to the greater status. The gags were also thoroughly lacking here.

Grand Uproar does have that one gag about the hippo getting in and out of his seat and causing the titular uproar, but that gag was only sporadically funny and too repetitious at the end of the day. The animation is fine, but nothing special. The highlight of the movie is the score that is classical, operatic and popular all in one.

Grand Uproar is very well scored, but it lacked in plot, characterization and humor, making for a lackluster cartoon.

My Rating – 3.4
