Glee Season 6 Review

The sixth season of Glee is a solid conclusion to the series with an overly happy approach to it, but with some very entertaining episodes.

Porcelain, the first moment I laid eyes on you,

I truly didn’t understand what I was looking at

So let’s analyze it character by character. I will start off with Sue Sylvester whom I found absolutely brilliant throughout this entire season. Finally, she got again a moment to shine, and this was a beautiful way to nostalgically remind us of the show’s first season. Her episode where she gets fired is so great, but the episode where she squares off against Will was brilliant, absolutely hysterical and downright unforgettable. It truly is one of the show’s greatest episodes.

Kurt and Blaine end up together which I found boring, bland and unrealistic. I have never been a fan of this couple, though I get their importance. Mercedes also received an overly happy ending and of course Rachel receiving a Tony was ridiculous, but hey, it was expected given how she always had that “I’m gonna be a star!” storyline going for her. Her becoming a surrogate mother for the aforementioned two was also overly joyous.

Santana and Brittany are shortchanged, but whenever they are on screen, they’re wonderful and they’re by far two of Glee’s finest creations, and probably the series’ best couple. The nods to Finn were sweet, but the supporting characters got very little to do. I did like the new gay sportsman character who was so anti-clichéd in an aggressive, but still admirable manner. But all the other newbies were so uninteresting and boring.

What I liked about this season is that they went back to the basics such as Sue’s over-the-top shenanigans as well as a lot of humor overall and a great dose of McKinley High. I did like that they came back to the town and the school, but they still ended up successful afterwards so it was just one bump in their road.

Yes, this was an extremely unrealistic, fairy tale conclusion to the series with its finale being obnoxiously joyous even. Some episodes are truly terrific here and I liked its great fun factor, but overall it should have acted as a better conclusion to the overall show which remains hugely problematic, but a guilty pleasure for me as it was fun and amusing and I am certainly going to miss it.

Worst Episodes: Child Star and Dreams Come True.

Best Episodes: The Rise and Fall of Sue Sylvester and We Built This Glee Club.

My Rating – 3.9
