Modern Family Season 10 Review

The tenth season of Modern Family is pretty much on par with its predecessor meaning that some episodes are insufferable, but some are actually pretty good.

Modern Family Season 10 Review

I Love a Parade is a boring, patriotic Fourth of July episode which has no point to it nor is there any humor to be found anywhere. Kiss and Tell is a solid episode with the Manny subplot working for once. And Jay and Phil are a lot of fun.

A Sketchy Area is so damn boring and forgettable. Good Grief is easily one of the best episodes of this season as it is both tragic and realistic while so wonderfully dealing with DeDe’s death and how it affected everyone. On the Same Paige is a triple situational comedy that doesn’t really work. Did the Chicken Cross the Road? sees Haley get pregnant with Dylan which is going to be the biggest storyline this season, but the highlight here are Cam and Mitchell in that hilarious and poignant chicken storyline.

Kids These Days is solid across the board, but the highlight was the outing of Gill, Phil’s nemesis in that very amusing subplot. Putting Down Roots is at its best with Haley dealing with the eventual motherhood in a moving episode. Sarah acted her so well this season. Stuck in a Moment is an okay Christmas episode culminating in an important revelation of her pregnancy to her parents.

A Moving Day is the funniest with Pam being angry at Mitch. Blasts from the Past is so amusing in the gay dads subplot, but also Jay is at his best here and his most mature. Whanex? is so forgettable to the point that I have already forgot about it. We Need to Talk About Lily finally addresses Lily and her personality and I really appreciated those scenes where the two had to finally acknowledge her different interests. I also liked Jay’s storyline with Stella this season and how important she is to him.

SuperShowerBabyBowl is at its best when dealing with Dylan’s entering into this whole big family. Red Alert is not particularly good nor funny, The Wild is bad with the women’s subplot, but pretty good and heartwarming with the men in the wild confessing their fears to each other.

Stand By Your Man is a transitional, forgettable episode whereas Yes-Woman is extremely creepy and downright horrible in the Claire subplot where she is attracted to Luke’s abs. Can’t Elope is so sweet in how the two wed in secret with the family, Commencement is an old-fashioned episode which works in most of its funny, sweet character moments and A Year of Birthdays concludes well, but it was a filler earlier on. A disappointing conclusion overall.

In the end, this is a solid season with some great episodes every now and then, but some episodes were also disposable and some characters are much weaker than others. In particular, the kids continue to be very problematic.

Worst Episodes: Whanex? and Red Alert.

Best Episodes: Good Grief and Yes-Woman.

My Rating – 3.7
