Father of the Bird Review

Father of the Bird Review

Father of the Bird is a 1997 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series.

Sylvester finds a sparrow egg in a nest. Before he can eat it for breakfast, however, a little bird hatches out and calls him mama. He warms to the idea of being a father and instead of eating it, he protects the bird throughout a series of near-disasters. This movie felt so classical in a sense that Sylvester was true to his character and the premise was familiar, but superbly executed for laughter and a lot of emotion.

Yes, this type of premise needed even more memorable gags and exciting action set pieces. The movie lacked edginess and adult humor for sure. But it compensated that with pretty good animation and excellent dialogue from Sylvester, who was very likable and memorable in every scene. The baby bird was also adorable and their dynamic was too cute for words.

Father of the Bird is a surprisingly solid Looney Tunes short that benefits from a solid premise well executed and a terrific, funny Sylvester.
