Dog Pounded ReviewDog Pounded Review

Dog Pounded is a 1954 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a pretty strong cartoon.

Sylvester must get past a bunch of dogs to get to Tweety. Of course, all of his plans backfire. Interestingly, this Sylvester and Tweety short takes the formula of the Road Runner shorts by featuring a structure filled with attempt after attempt to catch the prey. It mostly worked, though some scenes are weaker, including most of the ones in the first half.

But the second half is excellent. The police whistle scene is absolutely hilarious with Tweety being so funny there while the rocket and the swing scene are amusing as well. Another highlight appears in the finale where we get to see Pepe Le Pew himself appear, which was unexpected and simply delightful and oh so funny.

Dog Pounded is certainly uneven, but highly entertaining and quite funny in a couple of scenes.

My Rating – 4
