Devil May Hare ReviewDevil May Hare Review

Devil May Hare is a 1954 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series. It is a strong debut for Taz.

Yes, this is the first ever cartoon starring the Tasmanian Devil or Taz in short. He wants to eat Bugs Bunny in this short, but the rabbit tries various manipulative actions in order to divert his attention to other prey. Though the second act of the film is rather indecisive in whether or not Bugs wants to get rid of him or not, the first act is a glorious introduction to him while the third act is so much fun.

Instantly, we get a great design for Taz. He looks excellent and very memorable, but even more so, his harsh voice is striking and badass. The way they built up his arrival was fantastic, and his appearance did not disappoint. I found him to be a very interesting character as he can be fooled by Bugs, but not every time, which led to the unpredictability of the short. The animation and action are both terrific here.

Devil May Hare is a great introduction to the Tasmanian Devil, one that is both fun and very memorable.

My Rating – 4.1
