Muzzle Tough ReviewMuzzle Tough Review

Muzzle Tough is a 1954 animated short film from the Merry Melodies series. It is a strong short.

Tweety Bird moves into a city brownstone with his mistress, Granny. A stray Sylvester Cat watches them move in and delights on seeing Tweety. Another of Granny’s pets is a bulldog who, as usual, complicates Sylvester’s plan to sneak up close enough to make a grab for Tweety. This short is far from original as I have seen similar shorts in the Tweety/Sylvester series before, but it’s mostly very well executed.

The first half admittedly was less exciting, but the second half changed that as it became a lot of fun. In particular, that last line by Tweety closed the cartoon in a hilarious fashion. I would also say that the other cats and dogs are so well utilized here into the overall action, but Granny, though great, needed a bigger role. The movie moves briskly and is very well animated, but the humor still could have been better.

Muzzle Tough is a flawed cartoon, but a pretty good one overall with well utilized characters and some amusing sequences.

My Rating – 4
