Cosmic Fling Review

Cosmic Fling is a 2020 animated short film directed by Jonathan Langager. It’s a moving film about love in space.

The movie is about Stan, an intergalactic garbage man who lives alone on an asteroid. To feed himself, he harpoons space debris and converts it into nourishment. To feed his soul, he dreams only of love. One day, he spots Beatrice, a fellow astronaut stranded on a passing comet. He falls instantly in love…but must wait for her comet to return. In order to be with her, he will need to resort to extreme measures.

This is a charming, highly romantic movie that will appeal to all who favor such tales about love. The animation is gorgeous and the space is suitably cool and colorful. The score is also tender and so sweet. The movie runs smoothly, it is incredibly enjoyable and simply beautiful throughout, but the problem is that it has a plot that is obviously difficult to buy and the overall emotional beats felt familiar to me as I have seen them many times before in the medium of animation.

Cosmic Fling has an elegant score, strong animation and a moving love story, but it felt familiar at the end of the day.

My Rating – 4
