Bugs Bunny’s Christmas Carol Review

Bugs Bunny’s Christmas Carol is a 1979 animated short film from the Looney Tunes series.

In this adaptation of the titular Charles Dickens novella, Bugs is the ghost while Yosemite Sam is Scrooge. It was not a bad idea to do a Looney Tunes take on this oft-told tale, but the execution was so troublesome that this experiment ultimately did not pay off. The animation is very nice, the characters have their moment to shine and Sam actually steals the show here with a very good role.

But Bugs was misused and utterly forgettable and the same goes for all the other characters unfortunately. The entire plot of the tale is abandoned in favor of goofy humor, which simply did not fit within this particular narrative. It’s a very odd movie that would have been so much better had it not been attached to this story.

Bugs Bunny’s Christmas Carol is well animated, but it failed to make proper use of its famous tale with weak and problematic execution.

My Rating – 3.3
