It follows a titular Austrian fashion journalist who is as gay as they come. And he will stop at nothing to become famous leading to a lot of hilarious situational comedy throughout. I get that some may be offended, but this is a comedy and I loved how stereotypical it was personally as that made it much funnier.

The character of Bruno is absolutely ingenious. He’s feminine, sassy and bitchy, but also very racist and sexist which made him very funny and sort of like the gay version of Erik Cartman. Almost every single line that came out of him was pure gold and I particularly liked the facial expressions, the mannerisms and line delivery from Sasha Baron Cohen which were all pitch-perfect and he really sold this character and made him alive and so funny.

I also liked Lutz quite a bit and I found the relationship between the two so strong and amusing. He grounded the movie emotionally and dramatically speaking and was thus an important supporting character. And I really liked how the two spoke in German and a lot of the humor derives from their very amusing Germanisms.

I found the movie hilarious throughout leading to a highly successful comedy. Yes, it can get repetitive in its approach, but still I loved most of those awkward, cringy conversations and particularly the cringy situations made the movie click, much more so than the brutal humor which was good, but not as great as the cringy stuff.

I loved the racially insensitive stuff, everything with the baby was so funny and of course the highlight was the conversation therapy part and him making straight men uncomfortable. Those scenes were beyond uncomfortable, but so funny nonetheless.

Bruno definitely is overly short. Yes, at eighty minutes it’s quick and entertaining throughout, but I wanted more from it nonetheless. I loved the ending and although the beginning was less impactful, everything afterwards was gold. The dialogue is particularly superb here. The mockumentary elements also worked for me despite being repetitive in a way.

Bruno is very short and it can get repetitive in its structure, but it’s hugely entertaining throughout and funny from beginning to end. I liked the brutal parts, but the most hilarious scenes here are those awkward, cringy situations, particularly towards the end. Sasha Baron Cohen’s mannerisms, facial expressions and line delivery are all fantastic leading to such a fun creation. The movie is insensitive and politically incorrect and thus all the funnier for it.

My Rating – 4
